Delhi police’s cyber crime unit has registered an FIR against a social media account owner after they impersonated Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and demanded money from people. Earlier, a post went viral on X where a person posed as the CJI and requested people to transfer Rs 500 so that he could hire a cab. "Hello, I am CJI and we have urgent meeting of the collegium and I am stuck at Connaught Place. Can you send me Rs 500 for cab? I will return the money once I reach the court," the post by the impersonator read. Although the message appeared to be fake, the scammer mentioned that it was sent from an iPad, referencing the Chief Justice of India's preference for lawyers in his courtroom to use the device instead of paper books. The post sparked a lot of amusement within legal circles. The complaint was filed after CJI Chandrachud noticed a screenshot of a message that went viral on social media on Sunday. The top court authorities noticed the viral post and filed an FIR with the cyber branch of the Delhi Police.
