Amid heavy rainfall across Gujarat, a runway side wall has collapsed at Rajkot International Airport, The Indian Express reported. This comes months after a part of a canopy at the airport collapsed following heavy rain in the state in June.

Rescue operations are ongoing across the state, where heavy rains have claimed around 35 lives since Monday. The Army and Indian Coast Guard are actively evacuating residents from flood-affected districts.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi contacted Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to assess the situation.

About 13 districts out of the 251 talukas were hit with over 200 mm rainfall in 24-hour period ended 6 am on Wednesday, while 39 others saw over 100mm. According to an official release, 140 reservoirs and dams, as well as 24 rivers in the state, were flowing above their danger levels. Additionally, heavy rains caused significant disruptions to traffic and train services due to flooding on roads and railway lines.
